Physics Tattoo Tuesday : Feynman diagram tattoo

After I showed you the tattoos of bubble chamber tracks; you probably knew that Feynman Diagram tattoos were coming, right!

The Feynman diagrams are some of the most intuitive and fascinating constructs in physics. The above diagram shows electromagnetic force being mediated by a photon.

The tat belongs to Vince Sanchez and looks like he got it just a few months ago.

  1. Shouldn’t the e+’s be going backwards in time, as they are anti-particles? :)

  2. I’ve never wanted a body modification of any sort, but if I had to choose … this is pretty badass.

  4. Ha ive just googled this and am surprised to find this thread. This is my tattoo. Yeah I thought the e’s should be the other way round but i based it on the following diagram of a first order feynman diagram in its most simple form.

    Interesting fact is the wave has 8 peaks, and the arrow covers 5 of them representing the 8 notes in a scale and 5 sharps and flats in an octave in music.

  7. particle/anti-particle annihilation into photon, then pair production is the right. I don’t think there’s a right or wrong way.

    Putting arrows backwards in time is actually a notation to show that these are antiparticles since particles and antiparticles are made explicit here (by using + and -).no arrows are required at all besides the actual time arrow (under the sharps :D ). If arrows are used this is the right way. An arrow backwards in time labeled e+ is actually an electron so that would not be right.
