How to celebrate Talk Like a Physicist Day:
As the FAQ explains, everybody is a natural born physicist.
If you have looked at a flame and wondered how hot it is, or if you have looked at the sky at night and wondered how many other stars there are, you have already demonstrated that you have all it takes to be a physicist.
If you start asking “WHY” to the things you have wondered about, you will find yourself talking like a physicist, naturally.
Just for today, think of everything related to light in terms of photons. When you see light, think of all the photons coming to you. When you see red rose, think of all the different kinds of photons going to the rose and only the specific kind (the red wavelength one) coming back to you.
Just for today, think of all the electrons moving around in the wires to get electric power to you. Think of them as little electron people, buzzing around and passing their energies to the next electron so that you can turn on your computer.
Just for today, when you look at your LCD screen, think of little cavities in sold state system that give out certain photons to make the screen of your LCD glow.
Think of “how” things are happening at the atomic level and think of “why” they are happening that way at the atomic level.
Considering that this is the first year, it is a good start.
What is the official Drink of Talk Like a Physicist Day?
The drink is called “Dark Energy”. Mainly because we don’t exactly know what it is. Make something up and tell us how it went.
There are drinks out there called Black Hole and Galaxy but none of them fit the theme. Next year, we will have a contest and pick the best one. The winner will get the ingredients for the drink!
How do we celebrate Einstein’s birthday:
That is easy. As we have said previously, we do not honor our scientist enough. You might even know many of the scientist’s name but you don’t really know them. How many of them know how Watts looks like? How many of you know how Ampere looks like?
Here are a few pictures - take a second to thank all the physicists, past and present.
How to celebrate the Pi day:
Easy ways to remember Pi:
Can I have a small container of coffee (3.14159)
Sir, I bear a rhyme excelling
In mystic force and magic spelling (3.14159265358)How I want a drink, alcoholic of course,
after the heavy chapters involving quantum mechanics (3.14159265358979)
What is a Feynman Point in Pi?
The Feynman Point is the sequence of six 9s which begins at the 762nd decimal place of Pi. It is named after Richard Feynman, who once stated during a lecture he would like to memorize the digits of Pi until that point, so he could recite them and quip “nine nine nine nine nine nine and so on.
HAVE A BIG BANG DAY!
Obligatory Physics Pun for the day:
Why don’t physicists like to eat at Italian Restaurants?
They are afraid that the Pasta and Anti-Pasta will come into contact at the restaurant and the solar system, as we know it, will be destroyed.
And remember, anything that doesn’t matter has no mass!
